Oakland: ‘Kindie’ scene, High-quality music for young audiences

From San Francisco Chronicle

“When Tommy Shepherd and Kaitlin McGaw performed their first hip-hop shows for children in 2008, people worried about their music. “We would get these requests. ‘We’re looking for a kids’ band. Oh, but you do hip-hop. Do you have appropriate lyrics?’” McGaw recalled. Eight years later, the Alphabet Rockers are still going strong. In late June, the duo appeared at the Dimond Branch Library in Oakland for a concert that drew from their 2016 album, “The Playground Zone,” which tackles issues of race, neurodiversity and kindness — all while inspiring a love of hip-hop.”
