San Diego: Almost half the central library’s items sit unused

From San Diego Union Tribune

” Almost half of the items made available for checkout when San Diego’s $185 million Central Library opened two years ago have not been checked out yet, city data shows. The lattice-domed building on Park Boulevard downtown opened with about 1.25 million items in its collection, many of which were transferred from its old location on E Street.About 690,000 of them are available for checkout. Of those, 309,000 have yet to be checked out since the Sept. 28, 2013, grand opening. According to a review of checkout data, about 50,800 of those items have never been borrowed from the library at all. Another 48,300 items were last used in the 1990s.”
