Salinas prepares to launch literacy via cart vendors

from the Daily Californian

“As soon as August, a new fleet of cart vendors will be out in east Salinas hawking their wares — not ice cream or snacks, but books, movies, comics and more. These vendors are part of a new literacy program at the Salinas Public Library called ‘Paleteros.’ The word in English means ‘ice cream vendors.’ The program received its latest grant this week of $15,000 from the 50 Fund, the legacy fund of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee.”
