Berkeley residents call for renaming library

from the San Jose Mercury News

“These days, every schoolchild knows of famed civil rights heroes Malcolm X, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks. But the names of African Americans who fought more anonymously in the trenches for equality in the 20th century may be forgotten. Charles Austin, a 30-year south Berkeley resident, doesn’t want civil rights activist Tarea Hall Pittman’s name to fade into oblivion. He’s spearheading a movement to rename the South Berkeley Branch Library in her honor.”
